Mission Statement

The mission of First UPC Church of Spooner is to be a church connecting with those who are far from God, helping them begin their journey with Jesus. Our heartbeat is to see lives changed through God's redemptive power in His spirit. Everyone has a God-given purpose inside them. Our prayer is that you find His purpose in your life by using your giftings and talents to serve God and others.

What We Believe

Our core beliefs are based on the foundational truths of the Bible. The Bible is the infallible word of God. All of our teaching, preaching, and ministry are rooted in these biblical doctrines.

There's only one God. We believe that God created all things. God has revealed himself to us as Father, in his son Jesus Christ, and as the Holy Spirit, with distinct attributes but without division of nature, essence, or being. Jesus Christ is God displayed in flesh. He is both God and man. God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday today and tomorrow.

(Deuteronomy 6:4, John 14:9, Ephesians 4 :4-6, Colossians 2:9, 1 Timothy 3:16)

Everyone has sinned and needs salvation. Salvation comes by grace through faith based on the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ came to reconcile us to God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions. He was raised from the dead and now by grace offers eternal life as a free gift to all who follow Christ. That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone.

(Romans 3:23-25, Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9)

The gospel is the good news that Jesus lived a perfect life died for our sins He was buried and He rose again on the third day. We express our belief in the gospel through our obedience to the gospel message. As we obey the gospel and apply it to our lives we do so as follows:

  • When we repent of our sins (death to sin).
  • When we are baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ (burial).

We believe that our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is expressed by calling on His name in the waters of baptism. Water baptism is an act of obedience identifying with Jesus in death to sin burial of the old nature and resurrection to new life. We are baptized for the remission of our sins.

  • When we receive the free gift of the Holy Spirit (resurrection) with the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is active in the world today. Being filled with the Holy Spirit and developing the life characteristics produced by His indwelling are the privileges of all New Testament believers.

This message and experience is consistent with the first church in the book of Acts and what the apostles taught.

(1 Corinthians 15:1-4, 2 Thessalonians 1:8, 1 Peter 4:17, Mark 1:15, Acts 15:7, Romans 6:3-4, Acts 2:4, Acts 2:37-39, Acts 8:9-17, Acts 10:1-48, Acts 19:1-7)

the church is meant to be the visible body of Christ sent into the world to glorify God and to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are a spirit filled church, and a Bible based church.
